MUSIC & MEMORY PROJECT

Hospice Volunteer Services has made a music & memory program available to hospice patients under our care.  This project brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly, vulnerable and dying population through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life.

HVS along with ARCH (Addison Respite Care Home), has created a local program in order to provide personalized music playlists that enable those struggling with dementia and end of life challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories.

Patients in their own homes, wherever home may be, have the opportunity to work with a volunteer to reminisce about favorite tunes or instrumental works, have those downloaded onto their own device and be able to tap into deep memories.  Music stirs and opens passages that allow them to feel like themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present.  Music and Memories honors each individual and the stories that reside in their minds and hearts.  This initiative is a way to melt away feelings of anxiety, confusion and isolation, thereby comforting the patient as well as family members and caregivers.

The HVS Lending Library has the film "Alive Inside" which is a documentary about this unique program.  Stop by to sign it out, or to get more information on how this can help you or your family.
