Bereavement Care Services

 HVS Bereavement Care Services provides:

  • One-on-one conversations with our Bereavement Care Coordinator.
  • Grief groups for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one.  In the safety of a small, professionally facilitated group, people discover the healing power of sharing the thoughts, feelings, and insights they may have in common with others who recognize and understand their pain.  Please contact us to register.
  • Holiday grief groups in the late fall, to help with the approaching holiday season, which can be an especially difficult time when grieving.
  • Monthly Alumni group for participants who have completed a grief group and would like additional or ongoing support.
  • The Phoenix Gathering, a monthly, social, pot-luck dinner gathering for widowed persons. Phoenix offers people friendship and peer guidance as they interact socially, or sometimes re-enter social circles after the death of their spouse. We mail monthly invitations to Phoenix members, although interested widowed persons can contact HVS and attend without an invitation.
  • The Annual Candle Lighting Service of Remembrance for the families of hospice patients and community members who wish to remember their loved ones who have died. The Service of Remembrance is a program of readings and music, followed by candle lighting.  Community members are then invited to come forward to light candles for others they wish to remember.
  • Referrals to professional community resources.

HVS is very sensitive to the community need for grief and bereavement support. We recognize that anticipatory grief can begin before the death of a dying family member or loved one, and that the timeline of grief is unique for each person.
